Nancy Dynan

Home City: Solana Beach, CA

I grew up in Old Greenwich, CT as the youngest of five. I raised my own family, Will (28 yo) and Scout (25 yo), in Freeport, Maine where we loved playing in the outdoors while I worked at LLBean. It took me half a lifetime to realize, however, that I'm actually a West Coaster, and I moved to California in 2014. I currently live in Solana Beach, a beautiful coastal town with all the vibe of Southern California and none of the traffic. Here, I love to run and go to my gym, Stratum, when I'm not rowing. I'm the president of Nixon, a watch company born out of surf, snow, and skateboarding. I'm also on the board for BlueView Shoes, which is launching the first fully bio-degradable footwear this Spring.

I started rowing at Brown University after my brother told me that I was too uncoordinated to be a fencer like he was. (Lucky for me!) I loved college rowing and am proud to have raced under the Murphy's who still are coaching at Brown. I've always been a starboard sweep rower -- I've never touched a port sweep oar other than to hand it to my pair partner. I subscribe to "one oar good, two oars bad." But yes, I do technically know how to scull, but I'll bitch about it all the way down the course. So, let's spare everyone the grief. I've rowed for many clubs: Yarmouth Rowing (Maine), Masters Coaching, Furnival (London), Cambridge Boat Club (Boston), ZLAC (San Diego), and Chinook. I currently consider myself a free agent in the rowing world and would sooner focus on racing than club politics.
