offer extensive coaching to the individual and the crew as a whole

We understand that some clubs have limited ability to manage all their programs and coach every single athlete individually.   

We want to be a support program that clubs can lean on, and individual athletes can depend upon to improve their technique and boat moving ability.  Lesleh Anderson Wright, Canadian Olympian & coxswain started SteeringUwright as an independent organization to include rowers outside of her club in unique well run training camps that are targeted to improve individual athletes boat feel, understanding of  boat speed and overall watermanship. 

Lesleh’s passion for the sport and heart for the individual athlete shows in her attention to the athlete as a person first and rower next. Cassandra Cunningham, 1998 World Silver Medalist in the women’s 4x for the USA, as well as being a long time Junior National Team coach adds her expertise - and her uniquely joyful  personality, creating a fabulous coaching experience.  Lindsay Dare Shoop, 2008 Olympian and multiple time World Champion brings her heart for sport and education.  Michael Irwin, Head Coach of the St. Joseph University Men’s Rowing Team brings with him a wealth of rowing experience & coaching experience.

We educate rowers of all ages on how to self correct, listen to the hull, and cue themselves to respond to the checks and sounds the boat gives them.

We are excited to help you get better, faster, stronger, all while enjoying a glass of wine on the beach in Italy or a peaceful rural farm scape in Portugal.  Our domestic camps in Arizona, San Diego, Sarasota, and St. Catharines (or your home club) offer a similar experience with an added personal touch, while giving you the practical rowing education you are looking for at a location that works for you.

    Junior Rowing Camp

    Sabaudia, Italy is one of the training locations for the Italian National Team, as well as some Eastern European nations.  We have been traveling to Sabaudia since 2010.  It is located about 100 kilometers south of Rome and is a walkable beach town.

  • Masters Rowing Camp

    Varese, Italy | Masters Rowing Camp • June 22 - June 28, 2026.

    Varese is a world-renowned rowing venue, frequently used for international team training and host to World Championships. Located in Northern Italy, near Lake Como, participants will fly into Milan and be transported by private motorcoach to our lakeside hotel. The rowing venue is conveniently within walking distance of our accommodations.

    During the 5-day camp, you'll have the unique opportunity to train with Caryn Davies and Lindsay Dare Shoop. Both are esteemed members of the US National and Olympic Teams, with multiple gold medals and accolades. Caryn recently received the prestigious Thomas Keller Award, the highest honor in world rowing.
